Should You Hire A Wedding Videographer in 2025? l An Honest Perspective

When it comes to wedding films I believe your day is not just about the day itself but also the people that you have chosen to share the day with. In this video I wanted to have an honest conversation about why I think couples should have a wedding videographer. This year marks my 10th year of filming weddings and recently I was asked why I do what I do and why I chose weddings as my main passion when it comes to video. For me I value family and milestone moments and having people trust me with that feels like a big deal and it gives me a high that filming other things does not.

The Power & Purpose Of Video

Photos are essential to a wedding, there is no doubt about it. Usually couples will opt for just photo and later say they wish they had video. Photo and video serve two different purposes and in this article I'd like to expand on why. Take any frame from a photo and now add sound to it and the little moments before and after the photo was taken. When video is done well it should give you the ability to relive the day as it actually happened and experience all the key moments. Cell phones produce a great image but a videographer has a keen eye for capturing emotion and knowing when to hit record. Sound is a big component of your day when it comes to your ceremony and your reception. At the moment you are unaware of what your maid of honour or parents will say to you during a speech or possibly how your spouse vows will impact you. My question is what would you pay in 10 years to be able to have that moment back in its best visual and audio form? Photos will always give you that visual but the movement and sound of video will give you a unique perspective that you wont get with photo.

Video Is Not As Expensive As It Should Be

Call me crazy but video is honestly not as expensive as it should be. Videographers notoriously have to buy a lot of gear to execute there job effectively. Video needs sound, lighting, multiple camera angles and a powerful editing computer for it to be done properly which means we have to invest a lot more money to be able to operate. Theres also the risk of more things going wrong such as a mic failing or running out of memory card space because of how taxing video is on a memory card. I say all that to say that considering video is usually around the same price as photo I believe its not as expensive as it could be. Video is still not a widely accepted media for weddings and as a result to be competitive we have to charge around the same as a photographer or sometimes less. In 2025 this is still an issue and one you can take advantage of.

Video Is Not As Expensive As It Should Be

Your wedding film can be bigger than just serving you. Whether you decide to have kids in the future or little nieces and nephews or puppies (I dont judge) that you want to force to look at the tv how cool would it be to show them your love story and your wedding day play out. How cool would it be to see a high quality film of your grandparents story and wedding day. The wedding film industry is beginning to lean more towards the wedding film being less surface level and as a result wedding films are starting to tell more of a story and have more depth. Its the perfect time to get something that feels personal, unique and timeless.
