Why You Need A Wedding Videographer
There are many reasons I can point out why you need a wedding videographer for your wedding day but nothing hits more home than this story for me. After the ceremony and the reception the only thing, you will have left to remember your wedding are your wedding photos and wedding film. In 2018 I had the pleasure of filming my sister in laws wedding. Little did I know the impact that day would play in the year to come. My sister in laws father Dave was a man of few words. Growing up I always knew him to have a very mysterious aura about him. He may have been a man that expressed emotion but being the little boy that was dating his daughter in grade school (Cynthia) he always had a don’t mess with my daughter vibe about him. 18 years later and here I was at Stacey’s Wedding interviewing Dave for her wedding film. Being a seasoned wedding videographer telling an engaging story has become second nature for me.
Although I have always had a little fear of Cynthias father on that morning I was in my element and knew all the right questions to ask to get the reaction and answers that I felt would stand the test of time. After a few questions Dave gave me one word answers or saying a bit but never saying too much. Eventually I got him to a place where he started speaking from the heart. I’m glad that I was persistent because nothing could prepare me or the family for what was to come in the following months. The wedding day was awesome and we ended the night dancing on the sand in the Dominican republic. That night I recall one of the few photos that Dave and I have together and It never occurred to me why everything I filmed that day would paint a bigger picture for the family. 2 months later I discovered that I would be a father and 3 months after that we began telling family members. Eventually we told Dave and that moment was a little scary for me. I was nervous and for good reason, we didn’t have it all figured out at the time.
Needless to say I was shaking in my boots but in the end he was excited to welcome his new grandson into the world. Just when everything seemed to be on up and up tragedy struck the family. Just 4 months after Stacey’s wedding and two weeks after we had told Dave about his new grandson he suddenly passed away during a normal procedure. I rmember the day like it was yesterday, I was editing when I got a call at 3:15 from Cynthia panicking that her father hadn’t returned home yet and that she felt like something was wrong. From that point I drove to get Cynthia and eventually we reached the hospital. Processing this whole situation was just too much and from that point our world was flipped. Chance was born on Dec 8th and although he never met his grandfather we always keep his name and spirit alive in our household.
I say all this to say… Although Dave is not here with us… One thing that Cynthia, myself and the rest of the family can fall back on is Staceys wedding film. Hearing Dave speak from the heart in picture you can really see, sound you can really hear is priceless and something that we will cherish for years to come for those moments when he is really missed. I challenge all my couples to look at your wedding film as something beyond you, something beyond the day. Your wedding day is an event where your loved ones will look there best and the energy is positive and emotions are high. Pictures are essential and there are many pictures of Dave but having a video where you can really see him moving and hear him speak… is priceless.
