Ancaster Mill Wedding – Jason + Clara

Jason and Clara’s Ancaster Mill Wedding took place in early January. I met Jason in high school 10 years ago around the time he met Clara. It was an awesome feeling being able to document this day. These two have a lot of depth to their story and I was glad they trusted me to film the big day. Aside from the beautiful rustic vibes of the Ancaster Mill we also got a chance to work with photographer Kamila from @oniracreativestudios. Jason and Clara got ready at Air B&B’s which really added to the overall wedding film and just gave everybody time and ample space to enjoy the morning to get ready (highly recommend this over a hotel). Hotels are good but you’re limited with space and the lighting is not usually too good.

When creating the highlight film I was inspired when I saw a music sheet. The song, in the beginning, is actually audio from the bridal party singing during the ceremony. When I heard them sing I knew I wanted to implement that whole concept into the short film. With Clara being a dance major in high school I wanted to implement song and dance into this wedding film as much as possible. After the ceremony, Kamila and I ventured into the cold to do a photo session. It was super cold but we soldiered on and got some great shots (if the bride is embracing the cold then I definitely will ;). we didn’t have much time before the sun went down but Jason and Clara were naturals and kept it together in the cold weather.

The reception for us … was actually a challenge in terms of lighting but we used elements of light to be creative and use it to work in our favor. Other than that the reception went by very smooth and even included a flash dance mob to the song footloose (still don’t know how to do the dance). As a little treat, Kamila and I came up with the idea to do a night photo shoot with Jason and Clara. This was honestly my favorite moment of the day. We decided to switch it up and use some lights to create silhouettes and just play with light to create different types of shots. In the end, I was super happy with what we managed to create. Overall I really appreciated Jason and Clara’s wedding and their story. This was a wedding that really sticks out to me and it’s also the last full wedding I got to film before COVID happened. If anybody is thinking of having a wedding at Ancaster Mill I highly recommend it. It’s a great venue for its esthetic and overall vibe.
